Post-war suburbia through artists’ eyes

In the 1950s, John Brack painted a series of paintings around suburbia. One of these is Subdivision (1954), above.

In the 1980s and 90s Howard Arkley’s painings of ordinary, Post-war suburbia rang true for many of us. Below, the 1988 painting, House and garden, Western suburbs, Melbourne.
